Finding Light in the Holiday Blues

Updated: Nov 16, 2023

The holiday season can be a challenging time for many. Maybe you don’t celebrate certain holidays, have strained family relationships, or feel lonely. With jolly music, lights, and gatherings at every turn, it's easy to fall into the holiday blues.

Here are some tips to lift your spirits this season…..

1.Let Others' Joy Lift You Up

Finding light in the Holiday Blues can be challenging, but it's easier than you think, all you need to do is take you out of the equation, and focus on the joy of others. The holidays mean something different for everyone. While you may not relate to the celebrations, embrace the happiness it brings others. Finding motivation in others' joy is a powerful mindset shift. Smile knowing someone is creating special memories, even if you don't share the same traditions.

2.Create Your Own Oasis

When the seasonal frenzy becomes too much, retreat to your own oasis. Enter your home, close the door, and let the outside world disappear. Light candles, burn incense, play your favorite music - do whatever nourishes your soul. Begin an easy meditation & breath work.

Warm up first by taking an inhale deeply and exhale any irritation from the day. Envision the irritation dissipate up into the sky becoming stars, and you are there recharging under the stars light.
Now that you are comfortable close your eyes, and breathe in… breathe & breathe out….

Let It Go

Begin envisioning your root chakra at the base of your spine lighting up with a red glow, filling you with earthy, grounding energy. Next visualize your sacral chakra below your navel radiating orange light for creativity and joy. Move up to your solar plexus chakra at your stomach shining bright yellow to build your inner power. See your heart chakra in your chest glow green with nurturing love. Visualize a deep blue light filling your throat chakra for calm self-expression. Your third eye chakra between your brow’s glows indigo, enhancing wisdom and intuition. Finally reach the crown of your head where your violet crown chakra connects you to universal energy. This may be your own personal gift of igniting your own meaningful holiday lighting.

Focus on Community

The holidays can represent family, togetherness, and human connection. Try to appreciate these universal sentiments. Despite any family quarrels, people coming together creates community. Recognize the beauty in that. Try volunteering at

your local soup kitchen, or outreach center to bring joy to other people if you don't have any plans, or split your day between volunteering, family and friends.

Live in the Present

The present is a gift. Reset your mindset to fully engage in the here and now. Don't dwell on the past or overthink the future. Embrace your current moments.

As the holiday season comes to an end, don't let the blues linger. Use this as an opportunity to cultivate more positivity in your life going into the new year. Taking in uplifting messages and focusing on the bright spots in each day can become a habit over time. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but with consistent practice, maintaining a positive mindset gets easier. What we repeatedly think and feel shapes our inner world, and eventually reflects outward. By learning this habit of positivity during the holidays, you set yourself up for an uplifting outlook all year long. Let it permeate your perspective and fundamentally change how you experience the world around you. The gift of positivity keeps giving.

You have the power to shape your inner experience. With mindfulness, perspective, and compassion, may you find pockets of light this season.

RADIATE YOUR POSITIVE ENERGY BACK TO THE WORLD
